The Benefits of a Trenchless Sewer Line Repair
May 19, 2021
If your sinks aren’t draining properly and haven’t been for a little while, you may have more than a clog on your hands. Many sewer pipes have reached the end of their useful years and have failed due to ground movement or pressure from tree roots.
Minor failures are typically repairable – i.e., roots have caused blockages. Major failures include pipes collapsing and sewage backup that require full replacements. In either circumstance, your solution used to be tearing up the ground to access the sewer lateral (the pipe that carries wastewater from your home to the public sewer main). You’d be left with a massive trench through your entire yard that’s disruptive and unsightly, with the job requiring days to complete.
Luckily, there’s a better option for minor failures, which is why we recommend having your pipes examined at the first signs of a problem. If you can schedule plumbers to repair your sewer line without digging, you’ll likely be saving a lot of time and money!
How Does it Work?
The process starts with a high-definition camera that snakes through the drain to discover the problem. If the camera finds a blockage causing the clog, it may be removable. But if the sewer line is damaged, trenchless pipe repair with Cured-in-Place Pipe (CIPP) is on deck.
- Specialists will remove as much blockage as possible (typically with water pressure).
- The pipe will be measured, and the resin mixture prepared. Have you ever seen resin being poured and cured, resulting in a solid piece that’s extremely durable? This process is similar to give you an idea of structure.
- A pipe liner gets saturated with the curing mixture before being loaded into an inverter.
- The inverter is loaded into the pipe, and the liner will be inverted and cured into place using air pressure. Within about a day, the sewer lateral is smooth, clear, and good as new.
