What to Do When You Need a Toilet Replacement
October 10, 2019
A toilet replacement can be done for many different reasons. Sometimes your toilet is old and leaking, other times you are working on a remodel and want to get rid of that outdated model. No matter your reason for a toilet replacement, replacing a toilet is always easier said than done! If you are thinking of replacing a toilet in the future, read on so that you'll have a better idea of the toilet replacement process.
The first thing you'll need to do when it comes to toilet replacement is get everything ready for the project. This includes shutting off the water to the tank and giving it a flush so that your tank and bowl will be largely empty of water. You'll then want to take off the caps to the screws underneath the bowl at the base of the toilet. These are the screws that hold the toilet to the floor.
After you have prepped your toilet for removal, you'll have to go through the actual removal process. You might need another person for this part. If you are only replacing flooring or the toilet, you can plan to remove the toilet and put it in the shower or bath in the interim. However, if you are getting rid of the toilet and remodeling the bathroom, you'll want to have a protective layer of sheeting from your bathroom to the exit where you'll be taking the toilet. Remove the screws and use a box cutter to loosen the caulk holding the toilet to the floor, then lift the toilet off.
